From the Bride: We met each other in 2002 through our respective best friends, who were dating at the time. This was during our last semester at UC Berkeley. A few months after graduating I moved to New York, and Ben followed a few months later. Ben proposed during a trip back to the Bay Area (Ben’s parents live in Berkeley), eight years after we met.
The Venue: Ben has been going to Sea Ranch with his family ever since he was a baby and a few months into our relationship he invited me to join he and his parents there for a long weekend. We’ve been going a few times a year ever since. It’s such a beautiful, almost sacred place where a day’s agenda might include reading a book by the fire, taking a walk by the ocean and cooking. It’s where we go to get away from it all. The quiet ruggedness of that part of the coast (artfully twisted tree trunks, weatherworn grey fences, the blues and greens of the ocean) really helped guide the aesthetic of our wedding.
Ali & Ben: Ali is a former shelter magazine editor (Elle Decor, Domino) who is now the Style Editor at One Kings Lane. Ben is a formally-trained chef and now an especially good home cook and first year resident in Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California.
