“Use, follow and set a realistic budget. Many couples have never planned a wedding before and therefore, have no idea what things cost to plan a wedding. My advice would be to find an experienced wedding planner who can help you set a realistic budget that is based on your priorities. Most couple’s start with an overall number for a budget and then make adjustments accordingly to shape the celebration to fit the budget. Others begin by deciding on the size and style of the wedding they want and then calculate the estimated costs.

Every budget is going to be different based on the needs and desires of the couple. Here are a few tips for creating a budget.

  1. Discuss the budget with your family and make a list of the necessary individuals who will be paying for what items and/or the amount they are contributing. This will help you begin with a realistic starting value and acceptable range for your wedding budget.
  2. Prioritize what is important to you both as a couple and individually. If parents or another party are paying for your wedding, this question may need to be directed to those involved as well.
  3. Create an estimated cost sheet, beginning with the venue first and then your priorities such as the photographer, entertainment, catering, and so forth down to the details.

Creating and sticking to a budget is probably one of the most challenging parts to planning a wedding. But if it is set ahead of time it can help alleviate a lot of unneeded stress.”
