How to Plan a Wedding Reception Timeline

When you start with a well-designed foundation, finalizing your wedding reception timeline will be a breeze. The sample timeline below is based on a commonly used traditional format starting with a ceremony at 4:00 p.m. followed by a reception ending at 10:00 p.m. However, feel free to alter this sample to your liking. If your ceremony and reception will take place in different locations, tweak this timeline slightly to factor in travel time for you and your guests from one location to the next.

Ceremony & Cocktail Hour

4:00 p.m. – Ceremony starts
4:45 p.m. – Ceremony ends and cocktail hour begins right after
6:00 p.m. – Cocktail hour ends and guests are signaled to take their seats
